报告摘要:
Advanced Wakefield Experiment (AWAKE) at CERN is the world first and only proof-of-principle experiment on proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration. It will pave the way for the future high energy collider in a single plasma acceleration stage. In the AWAKE Run 1 phase (2016-2018), a 400 GeV proton bunch from the CERN’s Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) as the drive beam, excited a large amplitude plasma wakefield and successfully accelerated an externally injected low-energy electron beam up to 2 GeV in a 10 m long plasma.
In this talk, I will review the concept of proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration . The great achievements from AWAKE Run 1 will then be presented including the first demonstration of stably seeded self-modulated (SSM) and electron acceleration . After that, I will talk about the milestones achieved in the AWAKE Run 2 programme (2022-2025) including the first demonstration of electron seeding, control of transition between self-modulation instability (SMI) and seeded self-modulation (SSM) , the hosing instability in proton bunch and the ion motions. Finally, I will also introduce the project plans after the Long Shutdown 3 (LS3) and the future perspectives of AWAKE programme.
